Assorted Stuff #2

If a little stress is good, then a lot of stress is?

Assorted Stuff #2
Going to miss relaxing here.

Very stressed right now and thinking a bit about mental health.
The thing that comes to mind a bit is that from the outside, mental health is invisible, until it's not.
Once the cracks show, it's a bit too late. Of course, some people even hide the cracks for a good (too) long while, and then you see the issue everywhere all at once.... Never a good thing.

I'm also thinking about the effort required to change one's whole mindset on a deeply ingrained topic.
I've been challenged (via my uncle's boss) to change my deeply rooted (entrenched?)... How do I describe it? It's not a point of view, it's a deeply held (dare I say cherished), but more than that, more than a belief (For example, I believe gravity is a thing, but I don't feel as strongly about that as this other thing), a hard wired brain and all the feelings that can go on inside a person point of view... Anyway, changing all that is a lot of work, work that needs to be done, work that can be done while you are doing work.

Free power no more

Still pulling stuff apart at the house. So much stuff. So. So. So. Many cables.
Days of pulling cables out. I've for sure lost track of them all by now. I'd like to think I won't need all of them in the future, and the interesting thing is that I'm starting to believe it.

How do 'things' know the worst time to break?
Case #1. Our garage door spring snapped. Now I have to help (really help) the door open. And of course the garage is chock full (and I mean, full as a goog, chock full) of all the crap we have been pulling out of the house. There's zero chance of getting a repair guy in until we empty half of the garage.
Case #2. The Opto front entrance camera is used in a ton of demos. It's been largely trouble-free for 8+ years.
On Monday, the boss attends a trade show where he showcases all things Opto.
The camera died sometime over the weekend. I mean, of course it did.
So my Monday suddenly got re-tasked and what a task it was.
It's a PoE camera, and the cable/RJ45 looked a bit worse for wear. I think the SoCal sun on non-outdoor-rated Cat5 cable was the issue. So, thankfully, I had totally forgotten that we left a good-sized service loop in the original install, so it was 'just' a case of making slack in the building and pulling it onto the roof.
About 4 hours and two ladder moves later, the camera is back up and running.

This is a rated G blog, so I can't share my thoughts about realtors, finance, banking, escrow, and subscription service people.

I found this philosophically interesting....

To be clear, I don't have a mindset or anything either for or against Russians.
I find the notion that there are these software libraries that everyone in the world uses and trusts. Packages that most of us have no idea about (and that's the way it should be), and yet we may use them every day.

This is, I suspect, the tip of the spear.

You just know (without knowing) that there are a bunch of other software packages that are embedded in our lives and maintained by folks who don't have the best intentions in mind and are just waiting for the right time.....
