GPS Antennas

What time is it?

GPS Antennas
Wrong side of the tin shed

Finally cleaning up enough of the shop that I am finding some of the stuff that has been 'missing' and big time bugging me... Like the Raspberry Pi that I have made into a Stratum One time server.
It uses the GPS time clock (insanely accurate) to synchronize its clock and serve that time to any other computers on my network that I point to it (hint, pretty much all of them).

It was a cheeky attempt, but I put the GPS antenna on the top of the beam and hoped that it would pick up enough signal. Yeah. Nah. See the top photo of this blog.
So I waited till the rain stopped.

It really is one of my few happy places, on the shop roof, working on my antennas.
Yes, I wish the coax entry point were easier to work with; they are a marine sort of bulkhead thing, but eh, it's still a nice view.
(The plan for the coax entry point is an upside-down J - a bit of PVC pipe with a few bends - so I can just feed stuff in and shove a bit of foam or something in the end to keep the bugs out, but I wanna see what happens to the current antennas and snow first).

Left to right.
ADSB antenna with LNA in the mylar bag.
Galmon GPS antenna is not hooked up yet, as I have not found the GPS receiver for it.
2 GPS pucks - added just now.
UHF tinyGS - not hooked up.
VHF tinyGS - not hooked up.
L-Band ACARS - Discovery dish. Feeding the website since day 3.
Tempest weather station - Details in a blog here somewhere.

Not much to look at, but that's all they needed to see the cold, dark sky with GPS data raining down on them.
My NTP server got lock, and a bunch of my computers here synced up and are now super accurate.

Sounds odd, but these small things are really important to me, and I get a lot of satisfaction from getting them going. Of course, I am still really struggling with the fact that it has taken this long to have the space in the shop to allow me to unpack a few boxes.

And yes, I have no idea what is going to happen to the signal when they are covered in 3 feet of snow.....
