In Limbo
9 days of limbo

Need to unpack. Can't unpack, still doing renovations.
That's pretty much been the conundrum since we arrived just 9 days ago.
But hey, at least now we can have a hot shower, the main bath renos are finally done.
The guys have started working on the basement bathroom next. Once that is done, we would like to take a brief break from the major renovations. Not 100% happy with the work.
The other issue with doing the basement bathroom is that the workers tools and parts are spread all over down there, so we can't do any of the drywall (plaster) or carpet, or even the replacement of the basement windows, so its all a bit of a mess and Freddy and I are tired (already) of living out of our travel suitcases.

I did rip out the basement bar one afternoon. That was pretty easy and somewhat satisfying, reducing it to a pile of rubbish that we took to the local dump the next day.

Sunday morning I ripped all the dark wood paneling off the walls and rolled up the dark brown shag carpet.
Amazing how much it opened up the room. I think Freddy was onto something, wanting to lighten it all up a ton.
Now to find an online drywall sheet calculator and get the drywall hung.

I rushed the purchase of some shelving and its too narrow for tubs....

I shoulda man'ed up and bought the good stuff from the get-go. If I had 3-4 of these red ones, a lot of my shop storage problems would be solved.

Cole jumped in and helped me mount some antennas on the shop's sloping roof. Basically a bit of uni-strut on a few brackets that are tec-screwed into the tin and construction ply roof.
I have, clearly, more antennas to mount, but I'm slowed down by the fact that I haven't found them yet. They are in the shop somewhere, buried under the clothes we want to get out and wear, but can't....
But, with all the goings on in the Middle East and USA B-2 flights, the aircraft tracking community was very happy to see the data from this dish show up on the website after being MIA for about a week.
I just need to get the big satellite dish data feed back up and running.

Just today, I have unpacked enough to get the main workstation put back into some shape and get it booted. So nice to have it back up and running.
I've been working my way through the blogs trance posts... some good stuff in there. I haven't had the chance to really listen to any music for over a month now.

To get network out at the shop, I have dragged a Cat5 cable over the lawn back to the house and just jacked into the switch I have in there running off the LAN port of the router.
The annoying thing is that everything is working just the way I want it to. IPv4 (routeable) address, the speed I'm paying for, everything is spot on. But for some annoying, unknown reason, the ISP is sending a tech on Friday ( in 2 days) to install the Internet. I really don't want him anywhere near the place!!
Cole hired a ditch witch to do some trenching at his place, and I was going to borrow it, but he pulled me up cold when I showed him what I was planning, he said "the gas line runs through there somewhere"... uh... Ok, cancel my turn of the trenching machine. I will do it by hand at some point. A nice shallow 'trench' with a bit of conduit in it that will take at least 2 or 3 Cat5's and perhaps a bit of dark fibre for the off chance I get to run the ISP drop from their fiber point out to the shop / main router.
I also want to put some 'Y' splits and run the aircraft satellite dish off one leg, the house internet off one, and the basement internet off another.
But hey, Im getting my one gig up down speed that I am paying for and need.
So yeah, very much in Limbo, I just have to keep reminding myself the same thing I keep saying to Freddy.... It's only been 9 days.....
