Roof Work Pt 4
Chimney be shorter.
Seems like I never get to actually finish one thing at a time, it's always a case of moving everything forward at once....
Got time to get back on the roof and hopefully this time, it's done. HAH! Who am I kidding (myself mostly).
This time, the old chimney was the last big pre-winter job.
It all got accelerated as we were making room in the garage for my buddy, who is visiting from Ausadia, to build a custom pantry and kitchen shelves for Freddy.
Freddy noticed a pool of water on the floor next to the chimney. Looking up, I could clearly see daylight....
If you recall from Roof Work, the chimney gets a mention at the bottom of that blog.
I had a plan.
Happy to say, the plan went better than planned. For once.

I gave the top bit the sweetest little love tap to dislodge it, and about half the chimney broke free. I was not disappointed and helped it fly free to the lawn.
That bit is the better than planed bit.
Then I took the leftover HVAC tin and a rubber mallet and made a shower cap.

That bit also went to plan. Of note is that I did not have to put the lid as far down the bricks as I first wrote, as those bricks were set free, and the ones that are left as not in as bad shape. I may revisit this, but since the lower bit is so much stronger and in less wind and less everything, I hope not to have to make a deeper cap.
Next up, the gap between the remaining bricks and the roof....

Small 4 inch grinder with wire brush to get the old silicon off the whole thing.
Have I mentioned the fun fact of how the silicon dust makes the tin roof really slippery?
Turns out, the snow break is not just for slowing down the snow and ice sliding off, but also bald humans.

Slap the sealer on.

Not shown (I had my hands full at the time trying not to slide off the roof) is the tar inpregnated flyscreen that you lay into the base layer and then slop more sealer on top (or so the distructions show).
Last part of the job was to clean up the mess on the front lawn.
Picking up the big bits was easy, but what about all the little stuff?

Pretty sure I got a few looks from the cars driving past as I was vacuuming the front lawn. If it works, is it stupid?
Honestly, the lawn has never looked so fresh and fluffy.
