At the moment, the optical heart rate sensors in most wearable tech is pretty average at, you know, detecting your heart rate…..

Chest strap on heart rate monitors are the best heart rate sensor type at the moment. They are electrical, not optical, so work rather well.
If you are just after a number and don’t care about its accuracy, then slap on your wearable and move.
