There was a car parked on the side of the road yesterday…. it has never been there before…….. it did not look like it belonged there…….its been almost a year, and, thanks to the Australian government, my very first thought was ‘speed camera’.
Thankfully my second thought was right behind my first and I kept moving with the flow of traffic which was doing ~7 mph over the limit…. that’s a massive fine and license points sapping 11 kph over the limit!
I know I have blogged about this before, so I wont go into it too much, I am not going to go out on a limb and say that I am a better driver over here, its not like that.
Its more a case of I know for a fact that I spend far (FAR) more time looking out at the traffic than the speedo. It seems very important here that all the traffic moves at the same speed. Speed differential is the thing that gets you a fine. Go the speed limit, and you are causing people to go around you and that’s dangerous. Weave in and out of the traffic to get ahead and that’s dangerous as well.
I’m sure its only a matter of time till one of us gets a ticket, but it will be interesting to see what its for when the time comes.
Anyway, I guess this blog was really about the fact that its coming up to a year since we have arrived and I notice that I am spending a lot of time reflecting on that. Keep your eye out for a pretty big entry in a week or so I suspect.
