    I came across this video and found it very interesting.
    Here is a clip from the web about the video;

    “Here’s a fascinating video in which Italian photographer Ruben Salvadori demonstrates how dishonest many conflict photographs are. Salvadori spent a significant amount of time in East Jerusalem, studying the role photojournalists play in what the world sees. By turning his camera on the photographers themselves, he shows how photojournalists often influence the events they’re supposed to document objectively, and how photographers are often pushed to seek and create drama even in situations that lack it.
    You might start looking at conflict photos in the news a lot differently after watching this.” (Source, PetaPixel).

    The sort of photography I do is very different of course, but none the less, I think it’s worth thinking about and considering when you click the shutter. Are you slanting events by being there, are you pushing the event one way or another just to get a dramatic shot?

    I don’t think that you can just dismiss out of hand the responsibility just because we are taking ‘happy snaps’, the fact remains, people are going to look at the photo and think its a true representation of events at that moment in time.

  • 22 years.

    Tonight was our 22nd wedding anniversary, our 4th while in America.
    This year, as we did on our 2nd anniversary here, we drove out to Indian Springs to watch the sun go down and count satellites (15.5).
    It was a really beautiful night, some wine, cheese and soup, a great light show and a great conversation.

    Here is a little time laps I took of the evening to give you all a tiny little taste of what it was like out there….
    (I have uploaded it to the blog in the lowest res for my Dad, if you have some bandwidth, feel free to hit the HD version (just click on the ‘360p’ button and then select your resolution from there).

    We both agree that moving here has changed each of us and thus changed our marriage.
    It will be interesting to see how/where the next year finds us.
    (And where we end up observing it).

  • Photographing rock climbing.

    This one is for Matt W, and for anyone that loves good photography, video and beautiful editing and amazing nature shots.
    If you have the bandwidth, please click the HD button and watch this in HD and if possible, also full screen. Yes, it really is that good! (Well, I thought so).

    Goosebumps and tears. That was my reaction. Let me know what you think in the comments.

  • New photos of Amy

    Its been a while…. a long while actually, but Amy and I finally got out after work one day last week and had a little photo shoot.
    Seems like months since we last shot together. It also reminded me how much I enjoy shooting on location when its simple. Just the camera, no reflectors, flashes nothing, just me, the camera and Amy. Nice.

    Anyway, they are in her album…. I know that my dear sister cant find any of the albums past the first page (heh, Hi Sue), so here is the link direct to her album.

    I know, I know, only one shot with the fish eye… What can I say? Sorry? I’ll try harder next time?
    And no, I am not turning over a new leaf… I just was in a 50mm mood.

  • The Vault

    About a month ago Zim asked me if I wanted to show some photos in a little art show he was putting on at a local venue.
    I did the usual thing, and said No.
    Last week, the following flyer showed up in my in box……

    It would seem that Zim does not take no, for an answer……
    So, we quickly got some full resolution files on a USB stick, headed down to Wal Mart, got them printed, grabbed some frames and got busy getting 5 photos together…. I was not really sure which 5 to pick, so just grabbed what I thought might show well.

    There were a few no-shows, people that said they would show and did not (hey, a least I said no up front!), so I am glad that Zim chucked me in. Anyway, Zim got us all set up, I arrived after work Friday and hung around till sunset.
    Here is what it looked like;

    Saturday night we went back as requested. Zim had the idea to set up our lights and do a little photo shoot in the hope of either getting some business down the track or on the night…. Unfortunately no one took us up on the parting with money thing, so only a few shots were taken of random people (more photos in my photo album).

    The main attraction (other than the art show) were the local Temecula bands that were playing, thats the usual thing that The Vault is known for. I went in and took a few snaps just for the fun of it……

    Anyway, its all one for experience, not your usual art show I suspect, but still good enough fun.
